Dr MT Johnson studied Medicine at the University of Nigeria Nsukka graduating with a distinction in 1967. He specialized in cardiology at Harvard University and graduated in 1976.

He has served as Nigeria's representative on the UNESCO board and currently heads the Association of African cardiologists. He has a passion for research and has been instrumental in setting up the NgREN.
